A superb specimen for a shaded border or woodland garden, hydrangea arborescens 'strong annabelle' is a sturdier cultivar of the well-loved 'hydrangea 'annabelle'. Enormous, rounded heads of white florets stand proud on the strong stems of this deciduous shrub. Unlike many hydrangea arborescens varieties, 'strong annabelle' is a well-branched and compact hydrangea that rarely flops, for a long-lasting display, even in exposed positions. Hydrangea arborescens prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any non-alkaline, fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply.
