Acer palmatum ‘black lace’ is a rare 'limited edition’ japanese maple! This beautiful little acer tree has deeply cut and lobed leaves. When the leaves first appear in spring, they are a striking reddish-purple, which gradually change to bronze-green in summer. In autumn, they change again, giving a spectacular display of rich purples and glowing oranges. So this acer gives you something to look forward to almost every season. The acer black lace will grow into a striking tree suitable for the medium-sized garden, growing up to 2 metres tall.
Carejapanese maples can best be planted from march to early october. In this period the soil is warm and the plants can root well. In a planter, this plant does not require special potting soil. Japanese maples are strong plants but in a windy location the leaves can be damaged. Therefore, place the acer in a sheltered place. The plant prefers a spot in semi-shade, preferably not too much direct sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can dry out the roots which can lead to leaf loss and can burn the leaves. A japanese maple is not evergreen, meaning it loses its leaves in winter. However, the plant is very hardy and will sprout again with beautiful new leaves starting in march.
