Pink-tinged young leaves make a tasty substitute for spinach or chard, delicious raw in salads or steamed with butter, and small yellow-green flowers appear in summer. Treat as a cut-and-come-again salad crop by picking regularly for a constant supply of tender leaves, or leave it to grow tall as an ornamental - reaches 150-200 cm, hardy and pollinator-friendly.
