Sempervivum 'atlas' is a hardy, low-maintenance succulent forming compact rosettes of green leaves tipped red, supplied as 9cm plants and growing to around 10cm. Ideal for containers, rockeries and alpine displays, it flowers june–august. Plant in very well-drained soil or a 3:1 mix of john innes no 3 and horticultural grit, ensure good drainage, water until established, then rely on rainfall except in very dry periods, and feed once in spring.
