Attractive japanese shield fern with feathery fronds that emerge coppery-pink and mature to green. Hardy and almost evergreen, it grows in full sun, partial shade or full shade and suits borders or containers, reaching about 100 cm tall with a 50–100 cm spread. Prefers moist, well-drained soil; cut back dead fronds in winter to encourage fresh growth. Holder of the rhs award of garden merit.
