Aniseed-flavoured fennel (foeniculum vulgare) with feathery green foliage and bright yellow edible flowers. Hardy and drought-tolerant, it prefers full sun and well-draining soil; foliage dies back in winter and regrows in spring. Flowers may–july and can reach about 180 cm. Highly attractive to bees and other beneficial insects and will self-seed after the first season. Use fresh leaves and stems in salads and seeds to flavour breads, biscuits, soups, curries, fish and poultry. Supplied as a 9cm plant.
