Striking sea holly with vivid blue, spiky bracts and cone-like flower heads rising above grey-green foliage. Awarded the rhs award of garden merit, eryngium 'big blue' grows to about 50 cm and blooms from june to august, thriving in full sun and well-drained soils. Drought-tolerant and low-maintenance, it attracts bees and butterflies, provides seed heads for birds, and adds winter interest when stems are left standing.
