Gladiolus communis subsp. Byzantinus is not only a stunning bloom, it is ideal for bridging the gap between spring and summer in the garden. Flowers appear from april to june on tall spikes of intensely coloured, funnel-shaped blooms above a clump of long, narrow leaves. Gladiolus communis subsp. Byzantinus is native to the mediterranean. It is a vigorous perennial which can be seen growing in dramatic swathes in and around olive groves and vineyards.  for the garden, bulbs can be used in wildflower meadows, borders, or containers, as well as making an excellent cut flowers for vases or bouquets - be sure to plant generously and allow plenty of extras for picking. In the garden, plants combine with ornamental grasses and early alliums for an airy and outstandingly elegant displays. Gladiolus communis subsp. Byzantinus prefers to be planted in fertile, well-drained soil chalk, loam or sand-based soil which benefits from full sun. A hardy (h5), bulbous perennial which will reach a height of 90cm with a spread of up to 20cm.
