In may, buds start to form, each one held on a wiry stem and opens to reveal large, slightly ruffled, deep magenta flowers. Flowering until october and often longer, the nectar-rich flowers are a favourite of pollinators. The foliage is herbaceous, becoming dormant over winter ready to sprout again in the spring. Easy to care for, requiring very little maintenance, it is a great choice for beginner gardeners. Deer, slug and rabbit resistant, it will reach a mature height and spread of up to 50cm. A fully hardy perennial with an rhs rating of h7, geranium sanguineum 'tiny monster' will withstand temperatures down to -20 c, and most probably lower, preferring a sunny spot in well-drained soil.
