Carex elata ‘aurea’, commonly known as golden sedge, is a striking ornamental grass that adds vibrant colour and texture to gardens all year round. This evergreen, hardy perennial features golden-yellow, arching foliage that brightens up partially shaded areas, creating a bold contrast against darker plantings. Growing to a height of around 70cm and spreading to 50cm, it forms dense, clumping mounds, making it an excellent choice for borders, groundcovers, and containers. Given the award of garden merit for outstanding performance in the garden, carex elata ‘aurea’ thrives in moist, well-drained soils and is tolerant of both wet conditions and dry periods once established. Its graceful, fountain-like growth pattern adds movement and interest to garden beds. This sedge is also an excellent choice for water gardens or ponds, where it can tolerate periods of water submersion. Supplied in 9cm pots.
