Acer palmatum emerald lace is a beautiful japanese maple. The deeply dissected foliage of acer palmatum ‘emerald lace’ bursts into life in spring with its bright, lime green colouring. As summer approaches, the leaves become edged with red for a striking contrast. Finally, in autumn the foliage takes on a red-orange hue before falling to the ground. With such vibrant seasonal interest, this maple is the perfect small garden tree.

Careacers are a slow growers with a narrow upright growing direction that keeps the plants compact. This allows you to grow these trees in a pot or in a smaller garden. Japanese maples can best be planted from march to the beginning of november. In this period the soil is warmer and the plants can easily root. Japanese maples are strong plants but in a windy location the leaves can easily get damaged. Therefore, put the acers in a sheltered place. The plants prefer a spot in the semi-shade, preferably with not too much direct sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can cause the roots and leaves to dry out, which can lead to leaf damage. Japanese maples are not evergreen, which means they lose its leaves during the winter. However, these plants are very hardy and will sprout again in march with beautiful new leaves.
