From a generous, loose, spreading mound of attractive, finely dissected foliage, geranium pratense 'azure skies' sends up an abundance of flowering stems. These bring many eye-catching, double violet-blue flowers to delight both pollinators and passers-by. Blooms are longer lasting than the flowers of single varieties and these elegant, ruffled blooms last from may through until september. We love using geranium pratense 'azure skies' as a fast-growing groundcover plant. Just perfect for weaving throughout the front of a border, or creating colourful edging to a path. For added delight, leaves turn a deep red in autumn, before dying back for winter. The blue of this cultivar is particularly effective as a contrast with warm orange tones, such as geum 'totally tangerine', digiplexis x valinii 'firecracker', or crocosmia 'firestars lava'.
