Akin to an exotically coloured snowdrop, fritillaria uva-vulpis offers dainty, bell-shaped flowers throughout April and May. The exciting splashes of gold and burgundy on the petals are highlighted and illuminated by their sunny tips and will light up meadows, containers, and borders. Plant in large swathes for maximum impact or place strategically at eye level so that they can be closely admired by you and your visitors. Fritillaria uva-vulpis is native to southeastern Turkey, northern Iraq and western Iran where it grows in the maizefields at elevations of 3000-6000 feet. The foliage is blue-green, lance-shaped and borne from March through to June each year. Flowers can be held singularly or in multiples on each strong, slender stem and make a perfect inclusion in a floral display or vase. Plant in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil which benefits from full sun or partial shade. A hardy, bulbous perennial which reaches 30cm in height with a spread of 10cm.
