This cherished plant has been attributed with many powers over the centuries. They were once believed to stop sorcery, banish ghosts and cure arthritis, gout and drunkenness. Betonica officinalis ‘summer sweets’ is a relatively new variety. This semi-evergreen plant offers a generous clump of scalloped, wrinkly leaves from february to november. In june through to august, densely packed flowerheads of tubular blooms appear on upright stems above the foliage. These spikes of baby pink blooms infuse the front of your border with cottage garden charm throughout the summer.
